Even though the Omani government promotes religious tolerance, Sharia (Islamic) law influences everyday life. This means freedom of religion is allowed if it doesn’t affect Islamic customs. Evangelising in public is also forbidden.

Those who leave Islam to follow Jesus still have to marry under Islamic rites and if they get a divorce, the Christian will lose custody of their children.

“People are very friendly and seem to be open to the Gospel, willing to listen and exchange ideas. But to actually take the step to commit to Christ is very difficult.” – A Christian worker.

In the Arabian Peninsula, spiritual conflict and oppression are common. Believers experience many barriers when sharing the gospel.

Our Work

Open Doors raises prayer support for believers in the Arabian Peninsula in order to stand with them as they undergo persecution for their faith in Jesus.

Pray for Oman

Pray for Christian converts who have lost custody of their children due to divorce.

Pray those who leave Islam will be strengthened in their faith in Jesus.
