Maldives

If you are born in the Maldives, you are born a Muslim. Leaving Islam is not tolerated and could result in the loss of citizenship, a fine or imprisonment. For the small number of Christians in the Maldives, normal church life is impossible.

Christians can’t do any religious activities in public and have no complete Bible in their native language. Christian parents often have to hide their faith and send their children to Islamic schools.

Story

“To be a Christian in this paradise country is living hell for anyone.” – Christian worker from the Maldives.

The body of Christ is suffering in the Maldives. Most Christians live in hiding and in fear that they may lose their family, friends, property and rights if the authorities find out about their faith.

Our Work

Open Doors supports persecuted Christians in Southeast Asia by providing prayer support, advocacy and raising awareness.

Pray for Maldives

Pray for the church to come up with creative ways of meeting together to encourage and support one another.

Pray that Christians know they are not alone and are strengthened in the Lord.
