The Iranian government suppresses Christianity out of fear it might threaten or replace the Islamic way of life. Under Sharia (Islamic) law, Christians who evangelise to Muslims can be thrown in prison or have their churches closed down. Converts from Islam also face the death penalty.

Believers often have to practice their faith in secret and are isolated from other Christians. Church leaders can be arrested and given long prison sentences. Many Christians are forced to flee the country due to the harsh restrictions on church life and other faith-based channels.

Christian media is monitored by the government and believers using such websites or channels are tracked down. In the workplace, Christians are harassed, discriminated against, and find it difficult to keep a job. Christian business owners also struggle to find and keep clients.

Despite all of these things, the church in Iran continues to grow.

“I am the fruit of prayers. I felt the prayers of others during my time in prison. The most important thing you can do is pray.” – Motjaba from Iran.

Mojtaba is a former Muslim who came to faith in Jesus. He was an underground church leader when he was imprisoned for his faith.

Our Work

In the Persian speaking world, we distribute Bibles and Christian literature, provide discipleship and trauma training and support Christian multimedia projects for the region.

Pray for Iran

Pray for wisdom for church leaders as they shepherd their congregation.

Pray those imprisoned or isolated because of their faith, don’t feel alone, but feel connected to the global body of Christ.

Pray for further growth of the church and that many more will come to know, understand, and share the gospel.
