Woman Fined For Christian Magazines

An Uzbek court has upheld the decision to fine a Christian woman for giving away 15 copies of a Baptist magazine last Christmas.

Tatyana Akhmadiyeva gifted 15 copies of the magazine “Herald of Truth” to her guests. Police later came to Tatyana’s home for questioning after receiving an “unspecified complaint” against her.

Authorities also raided the homes of the magazine recipients. Neighbours were reportedly coerced to write false statements against Tatyana.

The court tried Tatyana for the illegal production and distribution of religious materials.

As punishment, Tatyana received a fine of 1,115,000 Uzbek Soms, the equivalent of two weeks’ wages.

Following an appeal, the Tashkent City Criminal Court have upheld the decision.

Uzbekistan appears at #21 on the 2021 World Watch List. It is common for Christians like Tatyana to receive fines for possessing Christian literature – or even for having Christian songs on their phones.

Please pray for Tatyana and other Uzbek Christians.

Pray For Uzbekistan:

  • Pray for provision as Tatyana pays the heavy fine.
  • Pray the Holy Spirit will continue to encourage, equip, and empower believers who face persecution.
  • Pray God would continue using His people in Uzbekistan to share the truth, no matter the cost.
