‘Chibok girl,’ Mary Katambi, has graduated from university, seven years after her kidnapping.
Mary was one of the 276 schoolgirls kidnapped in 2014 by the extremist group, Boko Haram. Extremists kidnapped the girls from their school in Nigeria’s Chibok state.
“They set the school on fire,” Mary remembered. “They told us to move. We didn’t know where we were going. We just followed the instructions because we knew if we tried to run, they would definitely kill us. We were so afraid.”
By God’s grace, Mary escaped. Now 24-years-old, she has earned a degree in accounting from American University in Nigeria.
“Honestly, I never thought that my daughter would come out of the hands of Boko Haram,” Mary’s father said.
“As I watched Mary collect her certificate, tears dropped from my eyes. All I could see was God’s grace and favour. I never imagined that my children would ever study at American University because I am just a peasant farmer, trying to provide for my family. But God did it. He did the unthinkable and unbelievable.
“Today I am here to testify that God has answered the prayers of His children. Mary is a testimony. Please don’t stop praying for the other girls and other children that are in the hands of abductors, that God will bring them out and, one day, we will come and celebrate more graduations.”
