 Extremists Take Life Of Pastor

Earlier this month, extremist group Boko Haram kidnapped the Adamawa state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria. Last week, they executed him.

Extremists kidnapped Pastor Lawan Andimi during an attack on his village of Michika on 3 January. In a video released shortly after his capture, he asked those who heard his story to remain hopeful and not worry as he trusted God’s will would be done.

“By the grace of God, I will be together with my wife, my children and all my colleagues,” he said. “If the opportunity is not granted, maybe it is the will of God.

“All people close and far, colleagues and well-wishers, be patient. Don’t cry, don’t worry, but thank God for everything.”

Over 6000 Christians have lost their lives to extremists since 2015 in Nigeria.

The 2020 World Watch List ranked Nigeria as the 12th most dangerous place to follow Jesus, largely due to extremist activity.

According to the List, Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen have terrorised believers for years, particularly in the northern states of which many enforce Sharia (Islamic) law.

With little accountability for targeted violence, Christians in Nigeria are vulnerable to very high levels of persecution because of their faith.

In the midst of escalating violence, please pray for believers in Nigeria.

Pray For Nigeria:

  • Pray for comfort for the family and church of Pastor Lawan Andimi.
  • Pray that the Nigerian church will not be discouraged and will continue to live out their faith without fear or shame.
  • Pray for peaceful resolution to end violence in Nigeria.
