 COVID-19 Adds Additional Pressure

Access to clean water and sanitation is crucial in combatting the COVID-19 virus. But for many Christian minorities in Mexico, persecution means that maintaining effective hygiene is nearly impossible.

Cutting access to basic services, including water and sewage, is a commonly used method of persecution in Mexico. Now with over 8000 cases of COVID-19 in the country, Christian minorities are particularly vulnerable.

Local authorities cut access to water and sewage from Angelina’s home in 2019 after her family refused to participate in traditional, Catholic-adapted practices, instead following Protestant beliefs.

Now, months later and ostracised from her community, Angelina is forced to walk long distances to reach public water facilities for her family. Despite Mexican health experts encouraging people to stay home, Angelina has no choice but to take the risk.

With water, sewage and basic resources for sanitation considered a luxury for Christian minorities in Mexico, there are serious concerns for the future of believers as the country navigates the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yet, even in the valley, God pours out His abundant love. Communities continue to share the good news of Jesus; despite the persecution they face.

In this time of hardship, please pray for our brothers and sisters in Mexico.

Pray For Mexico:

  • Pray that God pours out His provision over Angelina and her family, keeping them safe at this time.
  • Pray for unity across the church and that it would be a testimony of God’s love to many.
  • Thank God that in times of hardship, He makes a way. Pray that the Mexican church will be reminded of His love and power.
