Djibouti
The state religion in Djibouti is Islam, and the constitution provides for religious freedom. The attitude of the government towards non-Muslims is generally one of tolerance and respect, however societal animosity toward Christians is increasing. Conversion from Islam is strongly discouraged, and the small number of indigenous believers from a Muslim background are persecuted by their families and society.
Examples of Persecution:
- Some churches were vandalised
- There are reports of discrimination based on religious belief
Open Doors is: not currently working in Djibouti
Please Pray:
- Praise God for the Christian radio and TV broadcasts that are reaching the people of Djibouti
- Pray for isolated believers who are under pressure to return to Islam
